Nuno Ramos
São Paulo, Brazil, 1960
Nuno Ramos is recognized as a visual artist, composer, playwright, author and essayist. Since the 1990s, his works have dealt with the tense overlap between heterogeneous materials and a field of conceptual elaboration characterized by its proximity to the verbal arts. Such relationships can occur in the friction between thick layers of paint and paraffin, or between glass and words, in works that highlight the physical dimensions of semantic processes. His recent projects mark the development of a theatrical language, with plays, performances and installations that stage aspects of contemporary collective experience, linking spatial solutions to the discursive contestation of pressing political issues.
Among his recent solo exhibitions are A Extinção É Para Sempre, SESC, São Paulo Brasil (2021); Brujas, Fortes D’Aloia & Gabriel, São Paulo, Brazil (2021); Pinacoteca: Acervo, Pinacoteca de São Paulo, São Paulo, Brazil (2020); Blazing Sun, Kogan Amaro Gallery, Zürich, Switzerland (2019) e O Direito à Preguiça, Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil, Belo Horizonte, Brazil (2016). He also took part in the group shows 1981–2021 Arte Contemporânea Brasileira na Coleção Andrea e José Olympio Pereira, CCBB – Centro Cultural do Banco do Brasil, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (2021) 2020 Ratos e Urubus, CCSP – Centro Cultural São Paulo, São Paulo, Brazil (2020); Perdona que no te crea, Carpintaria, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (2019) and Oito Décadas de Abstração Informal, MAM – Museu de Arte de São Paulo, São Paulo, Brazil (2018).
